It’s no secret that Bournemouth is home to a vibrant nightlife, with many tourists flocking to the area for stag parties, hen parties and birthday celebrations. But what does Bournemouth nightlife offer students and which hotspots shouldn’t you miss out on? In this guide, we break down all the top venues and events you should go to during your time as a student in Bournemouth. Nightclubs and Student Events

When looking for student nightclub events in Bournemouth, you are truly spoilt for choice. There is vast array of exciting nightclubs in Bournemouth, each hosting different events with varying music genres to meet everyone’s tastes. We have listed our top spots for dancing the night away with a group of friends.

Cameo

Being the largest nightclub in Bournemouth, Cameo is certainly a spot not to miss. The club boasts four impressive rooms, with each playing a different genre of music so you can be sure to find a room to suit your tastes. From R&B to drum and bass, Cameo have got it covered! The recently renovated club features the latest sound system, quality lighting and luxury VIP booths.

Cameo is renowned amongst students for its ‘Wyld Wednesdays’, the UK’s biggest student night. Students gain exclusive entry for as little as £2.00 and have access to a variety of discounted drinks. Let’s not forget Wednesday is varsity day, so you will be sure to see the sports society members dressed in an array of fancy dress clothing!

The Old Fire Station – Bournemouth University Student Union

The Old Fire Station is a unique live music venue and nightclub located in the heart of Lansdowne, just a two minute walk away from our Bournemouth student accommodation. The venue has acted as Bournemouth University’s student union for almost 30 years, however, is also open to other members of the public for a variety of gigs.

The venue hosts a range of events of varying music genres throughout the week including the likes of Suddenly Funk, Applebum and TechBox. However, the Old Fire Station is most well-known for its weekly event ‘Lollipop’, hosted every Friday and features music from different genres across the three rooms. Of course, the drinks are very affordable, making it easy to stick to your student budget.

Halo Nightclub

Situated within what appears to be a quaint looking church, Halo is one of the South’s most unique nightclub venues. Halo is spread across two main floors, both equipped with extensive bars. Halo is home to ‘Halo Mondays’, Bournemouth’s biggest Monday night, attracting students from all educational establishments in the area. Halo is also known for hosting celebrity appearances, world famous DJs and music artists, so is certainly not one to miss.

DMYK Bar & Club

DMYK is Bournemouth’s award-winning gay bar and club. The modern, stylish bar attracts people from all age groups and serves a wide variety of quality drinks over their luxurious granite marble bar top. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere, with seating space for you to relax or a dancefloor for you to mingle and dance the night away.

Bar So

Located just a 5-minute taxi ride from our student accommodation, Bar So offers a lively party atmosphere with a variety of club events throughout the week. On Monday’s, you can enjoy student night ‘I Love Sam’s Mum’, featuring a range of Disco, House, Hip Hop & R&B. Or, if you are looking for a weekend event, then why not try Fire Fridays or Paradisco Saturday’s which will keep you dancing through the night with party classics.

Bars and Pubs

If you are looking for a more chilled evening or are wanting to have a few cocktails, then Bournemouth has plenty on offer. We have listed our top destinations to have a fun, yet relaxed evening with friends.

Revolution

Revolution is Bournemouth’s most-loved cocktail bar and restaurant, offering a relaxed atmosphere throughout the week. Let’s not forget its famous vodka shots in a variety of flavours, ranging from bubble gum to chilli.

Revolution also offers club theme nights with resident DJs, including the famous student night ‘Toast Tuesdays’. Toast Tuesday’s takes over Revolution every Tuesday to provide £1.50 drinks, prizes and of course, free toast!

Aruba

Located on Bournemouth pier, Aruba is certainly one not to miss. Aruba boasts an outdoor balcony with 360-degree views of Bournemouth’s expansive beach, making it an ideal location for eating and drinking in the sun. Day-to-day, Aruba is known for its extensive cocktail menu and chilled out vibes, however, also offers a livelier occasion from time to time. Inside, there is a large seating area and dancefloor ready for the livelier events.

Although rarely offering student only events, students do receive 2-4-1 cocktails dependant on the time and occasion.

Slug and Lettuce

If you are looking for Bournemouth’s most Instagrammable bar, then Slug and Lettuce is certainly the place for you. With two venues in Bournemouth, you are spoilt for choice! Our personal favourite is the venue on Old Christchurch Road, just a short walk away from our student accommodation. The venue offers a lively, friendly atmosphere and features flower walls, pergolas and stylish seating areas, making it the perfect location for a cocktail night.

Walkabout

If watching sporting events is more your thing, then we recommend you pay a visit to Walkabout. Walkabout is home to cheap drinks, good music, a lively atmosphere and top-notch sports entertainment. The bar is kitted out with several large TV screens so you can watch live sporting events with your friends every day of the week.

During the day, Walkabout serves an excellent selection of Australian style food, and at night, turns into a lively bar with various fun events. On Sunday night’s, Walkabout is home to the student favourite ‘Snakebite Sundays’, offering £2.00 Snakebites into the early hours of Monday morning.
